Whale Song is a proposed public art sculpture and community education project for the Kāpiti Coast region of New Zealand. Designed by Mike Fuller, the bronze sculpture presents seven life-size humpback whales swimming in a pod formation, ranging in size from eight to 24 metres in length, and suspended in the air over a one acre site. When built, it will be New Zealand’s largest public sculpture.
To help promote Whale Song to its surrounding communities, these activity sheets were proposed as a way for children to learn more about the local whales, a small look into the history of whaling in New Zealand, balanced with some fun activities and colouring-in pages. I designed and illustrated the activity sheets and they were distributed to schools and shopping areas throughout the Kāpiti Coast District. A big thank you to the content compilers and writers, Catherine Webb and Marco Zeeman.
